A reborn Muslim fresh from the haj to Mecca, the old soak appears to have taken on the role of a Moses, leading his people into a very worldly promised land. His generosity has extended to making unrehabilitated drunk Norman Arendse, twice convicted of drunken driving - on both occasions resulting in fatal accidents - a judge of the Cape High Court.
