H S van Zijl, son of a former Judge President of the Cape, and a former partner in the Cape’s largest and most influential Afrikaner firm of attorneys, Jan S de Villiers Inc., used his professional status as a lawyer to assist his clients in defrauding the Receiver of Revenue, and his professional misconduct contributed to thousands of ordinary people losing tens of millions in the Masterbond collapse. The Law Society ignored the outrage for nearly two years, and when the issue was formally raised by an attorney from another province, simply postponed the item from meeting to meeting for another year.
