Inspectors of the UK Department of Trade & Industry last year concluded (in a 600 page report) that there had been a leak of insider information regarding Minorco’s plans to launch a £5bn bid for Goldfields. Now London brokers are speculating: have the SA authorities been bribed not to pursue this investigation, or is the JSE choosing not to open up the names of these crooks and prosecute, for fear of upsetting the investment community?
