Patient given ‘rat poison’ in Netcare hospital dies. Hospital denies liability.

Eighty-three-year-old Bernard Katz who died at the Netcare Rosebank hospital in Johannesburg on 5 May was not buried within 24 hours in compliance with Jewish custom. Instead his body was removed in a body bag to the State mortuary by the police for an autopsy to be conducted on the following day. On his death certificate cause of death is recorded as “Under Investigation”.
