When last did you go to an independent pharmacy, one that wasn’t located inside a Clicks, a Dis-Chem, a Checkers or a Spar? They are a dying breed, losing out to the chain stores that establish dispensaries as loss leaders aimed solely at attracting customers.

Because older pharmacists are seen as bad for image (and maybe more expensive) chain stores tend to poach most of the newly qualified chemists, luring them with start-up salaries that the independents just can’t match...

You are so right Clive. I have an independent pharmacy 800m from my house, and a clicks one 1,8km from my house. I hope my independent pharmacy stays open, I prefer it to the Clicks one.

It would be a crying shame if these independent pharmacies had to cease to exist.
These independent pharmacies have brought more personal health care to the individual than any Clicks, Checkers, PnP or the like has done and in all probability will ever be able to do.
For many people simply the ability to talk to someone who knows you, your medications, your history and yes, even your quirks, will be destroyed, simply in the name of greed and ever bigger profits.
And no, no "sausage factory" will ever be able to replicate this.
Applying to any government headed institution for help in righting wrongs a exercise in futility.
