Winkelhaak Petroleum Distrib­utors, established 10 years ago on a country road out of Standerton, is today the biggest independent petroleum distributor in South Africa. Its plant at Platrand looks like a mini Sasol. It’s fleet of 68 tanker trucks plies the country roads from 12 depots, supplying over 1 000 farms from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal  to Brits in North West Province, mainly with diesel – 15 million litres a month of it – but also with petrol. And just a few customers, with paraffin.
