Green Point stadium in the red

What will happen when the Fifa circus leaves town? The cost of maintenance alone means the city will continue to pour huge amounts of ratepayers' money into the stadium for years with no direct return.

No, no, no. There IS a winner. A hands-down, laugh-all-the-way winner: FIFA.
Talk about the City council not wanting to draw ratepayers’ attention to them carrying most of the risk? The whole country carries this risk nation-wide.
FIFA takes ALL the money. Yes, ALL of it. At zero risk.

Once again, we watch as sharp thieves move public money into their private pockets to the applause of politicians (only some of whom are in on the deal). Robbing the public purse is still the name of the biggest game in town.

Time to start writing a recipe book on how to cook various parts of the stadium into a tasty broth. Cape Malaise Stadium Fritters, anyone? Rows Q thu FF Babotie?

You have failed to take into account that the new stadium will be the only venue in the Western Cape capable of accommodating our new President, his wives, children and bodyguards under one roof! Although of course this will not contribute anything to the coffers.

At least we will be able to look at these white elephants and ask ourselves who it was that said that soccer is the biggest game in SA.
The biggest winners here will be the ANC comrades that have their sticky fingers in this pie.

This comes as no surprise. We (the taxpayer) are going to pay for this wonderful event which will benefit the hospitality industry, but very few others.
As most of the visitors will be paying their airfares in their own countries and probably paying many other expenses in that manner as well, how is the country going to benefit from the billions wasted on these stadias?

I understand Canada and Spain are still paying for their Olympic experiences .
