South Africans seem to have been sliding into a collective depression over the past few years – violent crime, an unstable economy and grinning politicians on the take aren’t exactly the right formula for a happy nation. Even the recent mindblowing cricket victory over the Aussies, and vague signs that Bafana Bafana may be getting their act together didn’t shed much light in the settling gloom.

So it’s a relief to find a small company at the arse-end of Africa with the chutzpah to take on the global motor manufacturing giants.
