Microsoft boxes clever

It is not unreasonable to expect the world’s biggest producer of computer software to act rationally. After all, computers are logical beasts. But, we have discovered, Microsoft’s environmental policy is so far removed from its environmental practice that one is left wondering which software they use to monitor their own performance. “MicroSox-Smoker” would be our first guess.

Microsoft gets confused by their own products. When I lived in Indonesia I bought an Office program exactly as the one in the right hand picture above. I used it for many years and last year my PC eventually died and I bought a new PC when I was in the USA. I did not want to pay for another newer and probably more confusing version of Office, and being happy with the one I had used for years, I loaded it onto my new PC. Everytime I opened any Office program, my PC suddenly started "informing" me that my version of Office was illegal. The disk actually has the hologram "genuine" that Microsoft advertises as being the real thing, so exactly what is illegal about my software? I tried on-line to find out and the furthest I could get to an answer was that my version was made specifically for large companies - hello - such as the one I worked for in Indonesia, whose supplier sold me my version of Office.
