They decided to take the sibutramine out of the product. So it wouldn't work anymore, but who needed to know?

It certainly grates that anyone can make a fortune selling “slimming” tablets to a gullible public. That the fellow can simply replace one scam with another, when things get hot, truly irritates. But that he can openly sell a schedule 5 drug is downright frightening, and a sad indictment of the current state of the regulatory system in South Africa.

Yet, there it is: ex-used-car salesman Dirk Uys managed to keep his Simply Slim lark going for some nine months.

After my initial military training and subsequent stint at university, I developed very unhealthy eating habits. As an accountant in public practice I also drive around a lot and cannot, therefore, really eat in accordance with a plan. I've been on WEIGHLESS for just under a year, lost all the excess weight and believe it or not I can even eat off the menu in the WIMPY. The secret lies in the daily formula. If you have weight problems you need to reprogram your eating habits, not take a pill and still eat incorrectly. The only catch? The first week is the only bad part: you have to reallign your eating habits in much the same way as an alcoholic has to stop drinking. Thereafter its a matter of keeping track of your formula and after that it becomes a new habit! I also managed to get fit again as my knees can now handle jogging jumping etc. Regards Corrie

When faced with a dilemma between protecting voters or protecting cashflow, very few of our spineless, disempowered "regulatory bodies" or "oversight bodies" take the cashless option.

'Simply Slim', like hundreds of other products on the market are but just another product which consumes billions of consumers per year under the pretext of being 'the' diet pill. The consequences are competitiveness amongst the suppliers and there 'edge' or 'barometer' are changes to become the 'pill' the consumer wants.

The Medicines Control Council must move for change; that change must come in the form of legislation proscribing that all prospective 'medicine' (herbal or otherwise) be test, as to content before being sold to the public. The MCC's failure to do so can be as harmful as the 'Generation X' 'pill' to keep the youth content and in-control.
