Pesticide wars in Riebeek-Kasteel

Though on the surface a small, small-town affair, the Riebeek Kasteel battle between the vineyards (noses99&100) actually has much wider implications, raising as it does crucial questions about everyone’s right to know about, and so protect themselves from, the dangers of agricultural poisons. Most ordinary citizens are woefully ignorant of the scale of such dangers, and they’re not being given the kind of state support and protection one should expect as a matter of course.

The more time I spend with people, the more I prefer the company of animals.
Animals are more predictable, more loyal, and have far better ethics than “humans” such as this Verdoorn, whose sole job is to lie about the harmful effects of pesticides.
Hopefully he will spend some time being exposed to these pesticide hazards, and quickly change his tune when he himself gets sick.
Or he could well be one of the litigants in a multi-billion Rand lawsuit when his health fails, because “all of the pesticides were safe”
Life is rather strange.

The pesticide industry has employed the perfect stooge in Verdoon, who is known to remove his foot from his mouth on occasion and mutter some real doozys.
Birders in SA breathed a huge sigh of relief when he left Birdlife, and no doubt so did the staff.
Unfortunately this is bad news for South Africans in general as he will "tow the party line" for the pesticide industry as he seems to lack ethics. But look forward to some fantastic statements, especially when he gets pesticide in his jocks.

So Dr Gerhard Verdoorn is “sick of everyone jumping on the pesticide bandwagon”? That's disappointing.
The man in the street SHOULD shout out loud about poisons, and Gerhard knows that. The powerful poison industry SHOULD be held more accountable, and Gerhard knows that.
The good done by saving one or two individual vultures is easily undone (1000-fold) by covering up for agribusiness, Gerhard. What do they have to hide that they need you?
