We left Spouth Africa 3 years ago and for obvious reasons never took a TV with us.We have been hounded by one of these debt collection companies for the monies owed on a TV licence during this period. They know that we do not live in SA, but every year the demands come and no matter what one does , or what information one sends them the harrasment continues.
Are these companies run by sheltered employment?

There is a caveat to these "TV Licence Fees". Since a claim proscribes after 3 years they can only charge you for the previous 3 years from the date of claim!

Considering what a mess SABC is they need to find money somewhere - hence the hounding.

Those with DSTV pay for the channels anyway - as DSTV pays SABC to air their channels!

I used to work for these guys (briefly) as an attorney and can confirm that the practice is run in a most disorganised manner. In fact, to call them a firm of attorneys would be fatuous-they are no more than a debt collector!

A colleague of mine had a similar experience recently with them on rates and taxes-hence this seems too common
