Be very wary and look carefully at all animal and even some wildlife "charities". Behind them are often ruthless human beings interested only in the money that can be made by milking sentimental bunny huggers.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has a high profile, but were caught putting down 97% of the companion animals which had been entrusted to them in 2006 - way more than the norm. They were interested only in the money.
