Philippe le Roux, OBE, former NUSAS vice-president and SA political detainee, took over the famous Norton Motorcycle company with the help of some of his SA connections. In fact, it appears that while Le Roux was on the Norton board he was taking orders from Murray and Roberts in Johannesburg. Now Norton is on its last legs, and Le Roux’s reportedly somewhere in Bulgaria – on the lam from the British Serious Fraud Office.

It’s no great surprise that Norman Benjamin wanted to send some cash to his daughter, Rosemary, in Texas. What is surprising – since it involved illegal currency smuggling – is that he was able to enlist the services of Cape Town’s largest firm of attorneys Sonnenberg, Hoffman & Galombik, and Webber Wentzel, Anglo American’s attorneys in Jo’burg, to help him do it.
